AWDCC Motorkhana 24th July 2016

Luke Hunter August 2, 2016

This round was meant to be held on dirt at Villa Grove but the rain and just pure terrible weather caused the shift in location to the Barnawatha DECA site again.

The rain however did hold off for the best part of the day.

LHM_2462.jpg

So that meant the tyre burning could begin! Brendan normally frequents the Lap Dash rounds at the club but after recently purchasing a set of rubber that wasn't quite up to the task of sticking the R33 to the track decided the tyres needed punishing for their failure.

I was pretty happy to see another G6E Turbo hit the pan, the big boaty car definitely had the power but like my effort, would have been a lot of work to get around the small tests!

Really wasn't expecting a Forester to be out tackling the tests, but that's the joy of these events, everyone is welcome, no matter what kind of 4 wheel car you drive!

It was  Family fun day for Patrick Dunlop's R31, Sharing the car with his Wife Jess and Brother Andy.

Some minor problems saw them miss out on a couple of tests but by all accounts, had a great day.

Darren and his Son shared this Evo they had picked up from Sydney the day before, By all accounts its a grey import track only car.

Unfortunately later in the day during the Khanacross Darren decided to test out its 4x4 capacity...

I doubt his Son has let him live this down..

Meguiar's MotorEx 2016: Part 2

Luke Hunter July 23, 2016

After Making our way from the Performance Pavilion, MotorEx has a "Real Street BLVD" that basically translates to parking your cars up as a club/group of friends that aren't strictly show spec but are kind of different or appealing to a certain following!

Just keep in mind I was there Saturday afternoon, I think the deal is that you book your car in for 1 day and then the next day a whole new bunch of cars came in, I did see some photos of epic cars here on the Sunday that I was sorry I missed! But still very satisfied with the whole experience none the less!

The start of the line up we have this Bagged Buick Special and it was gorgeous!

Sunning black example of a 3rd generation Torana, With a modern fire breathing heart of a late commodore is an excellent combination.

The same tried and true combination for this early Kingswood, although with a few extra dress up parts and a whopping big turbo attached.. if it wasn't for the drag wheels it would be full glorified sleeper spec!

SLAMND is right!

 Love it!

LHM_1763.jpg

Turbos and old Holden's just go together so well! (Along with a bit of flair)

And then there was JDM.. A few very nice Toyota's and Datsun's form the land of the Rising sun!

Ash's Ta22 Celica caught my eye, Flying the flag for classic Japan with some friends

The interior in bone/ivory was an interesting touch, along with the Nardi wood grain steering wheel and a dash mat knitted by Ash's wife after she did one for her own Ta22 Celica.

Powered by a 1.8L 3t-gte engine at the moment awaiting a built 2L.

I'm hoping to catch up with Ash soon to shoot the car properly!

Something we don't see very often is a 2 door 120y! This one owned by Stuart. The car runs a z18det engine, and Watanabe 16x8 fronts and 16x9 rears, Looks spot on!

If this isn't diversity, I'm not sure what is!

I kind of imagine this is like Club FG but with much more mature members

Cookie Monster!

So fresh.

The Euro guys got in on the action as well

A not to over done falcon rolling on steel rims! I imagine this is something that could have been built back in the day, so clean!

Simmons trend wont die and neither will harlequin paint, not that either of these things are bad! This combination looked pretty good!

if Long roof customs were your bag this Chev definitely had you covered! I had a chuckle at the road kill bumper sticker... This wagon was as far from roadkill-esque as it gets!

Next up we head into the MOTORMERCH Pavilion to see some crazy builds unveiled!

Meguiar's MotorEx 2016: Part 1

Luke Hunter July 21, 2016

MotorEx is one of those really rare events that you get to see full spec show cars with street and race cars at the one venue.

Arriving just after lunch on the Saturday afternoon after a 3 1/2 drive it was nice to be greeted by some exotic race cars, having to walk past the transporters on the way up the hill from the parking lot was a bit of a giveaway of what lay ahead.

We started out walking though what felt like the shows "Trade" hall, which was a huge mix of different vehicles. The burnout section always has a few interesting tyre smashing weapons on display. Definitely the toughest FJ40, Get over and follow INFERNO on Facebook!

LHM_1551.jpg

MADSAM unveiled his new tyre torturer. The 71' Capri with a 408ci Supercharged methanol injected power house! Hopefully it will grace Summernats next year!

The show was way to much for some!

LHM_1556.jpg

One thing I noticed was the amount of kids around the show, not just having been dragged along by their parents but having a real interest in the cars, not all is lost for the next generation yet!

Further towards the back of the show we saw a big display of euro cars form of Bavarian Motor Works in the SUNUS Motorsports area, Along with a pretty epic R35 as well.. but we will get to that!

M4 in Orange was very hard to miss next to its mat black M6 brother sitting next to it.

LHM_1571.jpg

Really cant argue with curves like those...

What would be the point of taking photos of the SUNUS display without their LB kitted R35 GTR. Saying I was excited to see this was an understatement.

This thing commanded your attention from every angle.

Like it or not I think the whole "Stance" thing is here to stay, whether it be via bags or coil-overs. I'm happy either way!

LB Kitted E92... I... don't think it gets much better than this!

Oh, and a Liberty Walk kitted Mini, just because.

LHM_1638.jpg

After I managed to peel myself away from all the Liberty Walk goodness we ran into the centerpiece of the show! The V-Spec performance display. If you like your GTR's this would definitely be heaven.

The lone Evo was welcome although seemed a little out of place among all the rare Nissan sports cars.

The sea of GTR continues with a rare M-Spec at the end of the row

A tastefully modified R35 was a welcome sight after the full on sensory assault of the Liberty Walk cars. (My back would hurt if I had to wear heels all day as well haha)

With people pouring over this M-spec it took some time and patience to achieve this photo, but for good reason, look at it!

Dry carbon perfection.

Harrop Engineering was very hard to go past.

A very welcome site in the back of this Lotus, because well, mostly you can! And for those wanting a lot more of of their Lotus investment

Would definitely be very happy to have this in my drive way.

There is something to be said about cult cars that look like they get used! Zenki Ware booth had the goods.

Could have spent so much more time in this pavilion, and I'm sure I didn't get to see everything, but this is just a small slice of the juicy fruit that is MotorEx.

I'll be doing another post for Real Street BLVD and another for the Show Cars so keep you eyes peeled for those posts! Lots more to come!

AWDCC Rapid Sprint Wilby Raceway: Round 3, June 26 2016.

Luke Hunter July 3, 2016

Round 3 of the AWDCC Rapid Lap dash was held out at Wilby Motorsport park 10 min south of Yarrawonga and just a little over an hour’s drive from Albury.

The track its self is 1km long, producing very quick lap times.Robert Forest in his XD Falcon v8 produced a time of 0:38.6135 that landed him 14th place out of 38 (Yes 38) Competitors for the day.

LHM_9417.jpg

Ben Arnold taking out top honors with a 0:34.1293

His Godzilla race car living up to its name.

LHM_9409.jpg

Something a bit different this time was Peter Cullen's turbo Ae92 Corolla.

The 4age power plant made all the right turbo noises, sounding very unique on the day.

Check out the low mount. As l approached Peter for a chat it was clear something was not right with the steering assemblies as they rushed around to try and fix it before the next session. Never did get to have a proper chat but hopefully in the future. He did however post a 0:39.5146 to come in 23rd

A bit of drama didn't stop Mitchel Warnock setting a 0:38.8518 to end up 19th in his LS powered R33.

The nasty mess the lay within the engine bay, the belt had eaten though a radiator hose so it looked much worse that it was.

LHM_9950.jpg

Jake Lucas's farther Rex, seen here cocking a wheel. Went a 0:40.7042 only just faster than Jake who set a 0:40.7784! So close!!

LHM_9478.jpg

Jake also had an e36 rag top out for some fun, I wonder if he can keep bringing a new car every round for the rest of the year?

His LS S13 isn't far away from being finished so hopefully next time he will be back in that!

The groups were very well balanced, placing cars with similar lap times together can be quite hard I bet, but the club did a great job! Having minimal lap traffic for everyone.

That Just about wraps up this post, these days have a really great atmosphere, thanks to all that helped to  organise the day, because it  really was well organised!

AWDCC Motorkhana June 5th 2016

Luke Hunter June 21, 2016

Bit slow to get this one to the blog, and with Wilby on this weekend I thought I should get it done!
A very over cast and at time wet, rainy day out at Barnawartha Tafe DECA but with 30 entrants it hardly scared anyone away from rounding up a few cones and setting some times!

Jake Lucas, normally in a matte black s13 convinced his father to go halves in an Excel while hes building his Silvia. First event in the car went well with only a tappet noise and alternator failing to charge but they never missed a trial.

Pat in his turbo falcon put on a great show once again, leaving the start line at WOT almost every time to attack cones.

Smoking the pad out when he could!

LHM_8342.jpg

Nathan Clark in his Commodore powered Gemini, possibly more suited to a burnout pad they still gave it a good crack, hope to see them out again in the green beast!

LHM_7989.jpg

I think everyone fell in love with this Alfa GTV thoughout the day, keeping it classy the whole time.

Tarun lines up in his s13 ready to lay down some times, Possible car trouble seen him well down the order with plenty to improve on, can't wait to see him out next time. definitely one to watch!

Ben took to the pad once again in his r33, laying down times that seen him end in the top 10 for the day. a credit to his car control in one of the bigger chassis.

Minis are always top of the table in Motorkhana. Rod Shaw (Pictured) coming in just shy of 1st place behind Simon Kerr in another Mini.
